When Life happens, will you be insured? March 28, 2010

There is an assumption that most people are underinsured and are not saving enough money for their future or retirement. Additionally, most people believe that if they become sick or injured and can’t work that their disability income on their job will take care of them.
The sad truth is that those disability plans only cover 60 percent of their incomes and most people require all their money to live. Just imagine what it would be like to lose your income to due a disability and not having enough money to pay your bills.
Is it worth the risk?
Sounding the alarm in health care. December 22, 2009

Yesterday, President Obama stated that “31 million Americans will be able to have health insurance” after the health care reform bill is passed. He also added that small businesses will be able to get insurance that they can afford.
This year, I focused a lot of my energy on helping small businesses get supplemental (voluntary) benefits such AFLAC to help them offset their insurance costs. What I’ve found was that many small businesses didn’t have insurance because they couldn’t afford to offer it to your employees.
Congratulations to the American Medical Association and the Senate for coming together on the issue that medical insurance should be affordable for everyone, even those with pre-existing medical conditions. Visit the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to find out more about this historical progress.

Another great way to promote you and your business is by joining internet groups and forums. First, it is important to at least have a niche market when you decide to join. For example, if your market is women business owners, then you would want to find groups and forums that relate to women in business. One of my favorite internet groups is www.betternetworker.com. This community is particularly geared to those who are interested in building relationships with other business owners to share resources and strategies in the home based business industry. Remember when you join a group, you are there to connect with others and not to just sell to them. Many of the groups have rules and regulations, so it is a good idea to review their guidelines so that you will not be labeled as a spammer. No one wants to be spammed.
What are your favorite internet groups and forums? Let’s connect.

If you like to write, you can explore article writing. It is one of the fastest ways to increase exposure to your business online. With article marketing, you can write articles that relate to your niche market which will make it easy for your potential clients to find you.
Additionally, you can write a regular column in your local paper or write for an online magazine such as the examiner or ezinearticles. With each article that you write, you can submit them to article directories; just make sure that you adhere to the directory’s guidelines since some request original content.
If you would like to write for the examiner, then click on “write for us” and reference the “DC Life Coach”

Do you listen to podcasts? It is the latest trend. Using Podcast can really catapult your business. At your convenience, you can record an audio show that relates to your coaching practice and invite people to download your content from the Internet.
I currently use audio acrobat to make my recording and it is easy to use and download to my website. If you are asking what is podcasting? It is similar to having your own radio station where you have the freedom to program the content. You can provide information specifically to you target audience as you would a newsletter. Your information can consist of tips or inspiring stories on how to handle life problems.

How often are you networking with others? When was the last time you called someone to share your new product or service? Networking with others can be beneficial to you and your business. This activity will help you connect with groups of people to expand your business. When I was growing my travel business, I joined BNI which stands for Business Networking International, a leading networking organization. As a result from joining this group, I generated a lot of qualified and successful leads that helped me to expand my network and business.
Here are some ways in which you can network and expand your business.
- Become a part of committees and boards.
- Find local networking groups in your area and join them.
- Start your own Meet up group at www.meetup.com.
- Join the local Chamber of Commerce or trade boards.
- Let people know what you can do at community events.
- Make appointment with influential people.
- Always maintain contact with your former clients.
Are you living the life you want? May 25, 2009

Living the life you want can be achieved by anyone. It all starts with your mind set and believing that you can have, do and be anything that you can imagine. Walt Disney once said, “if you can dream it, you can do it.” This is exactly true, but you must take action. One of the coaching exercises that I like to suggest to my clients is visualization. In this exercise, I ask my clients to take in a couple of deep breaths to help them relax and clear their minds. Then, I ask them to visualize themselves doing something that they are truly passionate about in which they see themselves living the lifestyle they want. In further creating the lifestyle you want, you can begin to ask yourself the following lifestyle questions:
Am I living up to my full potential?
Am I satisfied living this way?
What am I tolerating?
What am I waiting for?
What do I really want?
What would it look like to wake up happy and excited every morning?
What is presently consuming my time and energy that I wish I could eliminate?
Am I eating the right kinds of food?
If I could change my lifestyle what would I do differently?
Am I tolerating something that I could eliminate?
What would really make me happy right now?
Who can help me create the life I want?
Referral Key is the best referral tracking system online. May 4, 2009

When I began asking friends and colleagues for referrals, I didn’t have an effective tracking system. At the time, I was using a virtual assistant which eventually became too costly. If you have multiple business like I do, you will need to have a tracking system that will assist you in managing all of your referrals. The referral tracking system that I prefer to use is www.referralkey.com because it allows you to add and send referrals to your colleagues as well as send incentives for each referral received. The service is free with the option to upgrade to a paid membership. Since using www.referralkey.com my business have expanded and I have been able to keep track of my referrals.
